Quality of Life In Lisbon Rated Amongst the World's Best!

The excellent quality of life in Lisbon has been praised as for the third consecutive year the city has made Monocle Magazine's 'Top 25 cities with best quality of life' list, reaffirming its burgeoning reputation as being one of Europe's most promising capitals.

It is a prestigious feat to achieve; an accolade based on facts such as low crimes rates, a strategic geographical position on the European continent, its stunning riverside area, and, for the first time, its liberal laws that allow gay marriage. According to the monthly English-language magazine, the quality of life in Lisbon is excellent and it is an "increasingly better city in which to live".

This is supported by a recent survey from Mercer, a leading global provider of consulting, outsourcing and investment services, whose latest 'Quality of Living' study indicates the same findings. While Vienna remains at the top of Mercer's study and Baghdad at the bottom, European cities continue to dominate the top of the ranking, with Lisbon ranking 45th out of 420 cities worldwide. Mercer evaluates local living conditions in all the cities that it surveys worldwide. Living conditions are analysed according to 39 factors, grouped in 10 categories: political and social environment, economic environment, socio-cultural environment, health and sanitation, schools and education, public services and transportation, recreation, consumer goods, housing and natural environment.
