The Algarve

The Algarve is the southernmost and sunniest region in Portugal and the best known, blending upmarket resorts with typical whitewashed hillside villages and lively party destinations.

Here you will find a relaxed way of life with a café culture and first class restaurants offering a wide range of traditional Portuguese and international cuisine with seafood a speciality. The moderate climate, averaging 15 degrees in winter and 30 degrees in summer makes the Algarve a year round destination. With more than 3000 hours of sunshine a year there are lots of outdoor activities on offer from a quiet saunter down the beach to adrenalin packed water sports. Its golf courses are without a doubt the Algarve’s most famous sporting attraction winning numerous accolades including being voted the Best Golfing Destination in the World by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators.

The Algarve attracts discerning visitors from all over the world making this one of the most cosmopolitan areas in Portugal with an active multinational community and thriving international schools and social clubs, bars, casinos and marinas.

Many property investors and holiday home owners favour the seaside towns for the lifestyle, amenities and the prospect of a good rental income. In fact beach lovers are spoilt for choice. The Algarve has over 200km of coastline and beautiful beaches many of which are blue flag. The beach Praia da Marinha, near Lagoa was classified as one of the 100 most beautiful and well preserved beaches of the world.

Drive a few miles inland and you’ll find pictureque and unspoilt countryside. Here many Portuguese and foreign residents enjoy a tranquil existence and a more laidback, traditional way of life away from the hustle and bustle of the resorts and the coast.

Where to Buy in The Algarve

In terms of real estate, the Algarve has shown consistent growth and there are properties and locations to suit every taste and budget. The Central Algarve has the most established property market while many parts of the Eastern and Western Algarve could be classed as up-and-coming areas.

The Central Algarve is very popular thanks to the proximity of Faro airport and the area's infrastructure and amenities. Here you'll find some of the most prestigious and sought after real estate in Portugal in the Golden Triangle towns of Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and the surrounding area. Even for more modest budgets there is a wide variety of property to choose from in the central Algarve

The landscape of the Eastern Algarve is wider and flatter with more islands and deserted beaches. It is the warmest part of the Algarve. Here you will find many traditional Algarvean towns and villages and in recent years a growth in well priced, quality developments.

Head to the Western Algarve and you'll be struck by the dramatic rock formations and towering cliffs that give the beaches a wilder, untamed feel and the greener countryside. This area is slightly cooler. It is increasingly popular and has seen significant development with a new airport scheduled to open in Portimao, a formula one race track and new coastal and countryside properties.
